Special Events: Web-based e-Learning

First self-e-learning course on the Balanced Scorecard

Background

logoThe APO is offering its first Web-based self-e-learning course on the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) as a follow-up to previous projects on the topic. It is hoped that this will increase awareness of the BSC among member countries and encourage its adoption by both SMEs and large private corporations. This course will act as a springboard for the development of more practice-oriented projects covering more advanced elements of the BSC. The first self-e-learning course was launched in three phases beginning on 22 and 28 August, and 5 September 2008, respectively. A second relaunch of the program was proposed for mid-2009 as part of the APO Secretariat’s continued commitment to developing courses offered via the e-learning platform using LMS technology. The relaunch of the second-generation self-e-learning course on The Balanced Scorecard has been successful, and we hope that the more customized, efficient delivery system for this and future courses will meet the needs of member countries. The program can currently accommodate 2,000 online students at any time and will be available to all member countries. A brochure containing detailed information on the curriculum and registration is available here.

Course Objectives

  1. Provide an opportunity for participants to learn about the BSC at the basic and intermediate levels simultaneously in a series of user-friendly, self-paced modules. The course features a pre- and postcourse test for participants to gauge their initial level of understanding and subsequent progress
  2. Improve the quality of future APO projects. The test scoring system will be used to gauge project quality, the competency level of participants, and the mean duration required for completion.
  3. To create a pool of individuals with a thorough understanding of how to use the BSC to increase productivity in their organizations. Course participants will receive a certification of completion after finishing the course which can be used to qualify for future APO projects.
