APO–CPC conference unveils market strategies to boost ROC fresh fruit exports to Japan

9 Sep 2024

China Productivity Center (CPC) and the APO Secretariat jointly organized a face-to-face conference on Introduction to Japan’s Imported Fruit Market and Preservation Technologies, 6–8 August in Taipei and Tainan. The event held under the Technical Expert Services (TES) Program attracted 130 participants from government, farming, trade, and cooperatives. The conference promoted exports by the ROC’s fresh fruit industry, particularly pineapples, to Japan through process refinement and recognition of evolving consumer preferences.

One international expert from Japan delivered two keynote speeches and conducted four field visits, onsite consultations, and discussions. The conference resulted in several key achievements, including an improved understanding of global trends, Japanese consumer preferences, and strategies for enhancing the ROC’s agricultural trade. Participants also gained insights into global climate change impacts and trade liberalization.

The attendees indicated that onsite consultations and field visits were particularly beneficial, offering practical advice on addressing fruit defects and leveraging the ROC’s cold chain facilities to strengthen trade partnerships with Japan. The event supported the APO Vision 2025 by promoting smart transformation and sustained productivity growth through capacity building among NPO stakeholders.
