The APO Secretariat had the distinct honor of hosting Dr. Wempi Saputra, Executive Director of the Southeast Asia Voting Group of the World Bank Group, on 22 January 2025. Delivered virtually from Washington, D.C., the lecture was part of the APO Secretariat’s ongoing knowledge-sharing town hall sessions, which are designed to enhance organizational understanding of pressing global issues.
Dr. Wempi’s presentation, titled Global Economic Prospects for 2025, provided invaluable insights into key trends shaping the future global economy. He highlighted projected global growth rates, trade dynamics, the challenges facing emerging and developing economies, and the implications of policy adjustments worldwide. His comprehensive analysis underscored critical risks and opportunities that resonate deeply with the APO’s mission of fostering sustainable productivity in the Asia-Pacific region.
The session also marked a significant milestone in the Secretariat’s training initiatives, which were launched in 2024 to strengthen staff capabilities and align their expertise with the APO’s strategic goals, as proposed by APO Secretary-General Indra Pradana Singawinata. Participants expressed appreciation for the thought-provoking content and its relevance to the APO’s work in supporting its members’ socioeconomic development.
