APO Secretary-General Dr. Indra Pradana Singawinata accompanied the APO Chair and Director for Fiji Jone Maritino Nemani to pay a courtesy call on Green Productivity (GP) Advisory Council Chair Prof. Emeritus Ryoichi Yamamoto, Chairperson of Tokyo Metropolitan Public University Corporation, on 19 December.

The APO delegation received a briefing on the activities and plans of Tokyo Metropolitan Public University Corporation, which span areas closely related to the APO’s mission, including research, people-to-people exchanges, and climate change mitigation. Potential opportunities to expand the international student network of Tokyo Metropolitan University through collaboration with Fiji National University, which hosts the NPO Fiji, were explored.

This was followed by a discussion on GP 2.0 and the GP Advisory Council, which APO Chair and Director for Fiji Nemani joined at the 65th Workshop Meeting of Heads of National Productivity Organizations (WSM) held in Nadi, Fiji, in October upon the invitation of GP Advisory (GPA) Council member Prof. Yoichiro Matsumoto, Science and Technology Advisor to the Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs, representing GPA Council Chair Prof. Yamamoto. APO Chair and Director for Fiji Nemani thanked Prof. Yamamoto for the opportunity to join the council and appreciated the honor of representing Fiji to contribute to the development of GP 2.0 aimed at addressing climate change, which was a pressing issue in Fiji and its neighbors in the Pacific. Prof. Yamamoto welcomed the involvement of Fiji in the development of GP 2.0, as the Pacific Island states were disproportionately affected by climate change.

Secretary-General Dr. Indra provided an update on the APO Secretariat’s preparations to convene the GP Advisory Council Annual Meeting in 2025, which was appreciated by Prof. Yamamoto.

At the close of the meeting, APO Chair Nemani, Prof. Yamamoto, and Secretary-General Dr. Indra reaffirmed the importance of GP 2.0 and looked forward to convening the first in-person meeting of the GPA Council in 2025.
