Enhancing SME Growth Through Productivity Gainsharing

6 Dec 2024

The APO held the Workshop on Productivity Gainsharing for SMEs from 5 to 8 November in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Hosted by the Mongolian Productivity Organization, the workshop aimed to equip small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across 12 APO members with innovative strategies for inclusive, productivity-driven growth. The event aligns with the APO Vision 2025, emphasizing the importance of gainsharing as a model to boost productivity, encourage knowledge-sharing, and promote shared prosperity within SMEs.

With 25 participants from 12 APO members, the workshop featured five resource persons, including two from Mongolia and one each from Japan, the ROK, and the UK. Participants gained insights into various productivity gainsharing models and their practical applications in SME settings, learning strategies for fostering shared prosperity through gainsharing. The agenda included an exploration of frameworks that motivate employee performance, improve competitiveness, and sustain productivity improvements.

Participants also visited three prominent SMEs: API JSC – a leading beverage company, EVSEG Cashmere LLC – a renowned cashmere company specializing in high-quality products, and Breast clinic of Ulaanbaatar – a promising clinic focused on combating breast cancer. These site visits provided a valuable look at effective productivity practices in action. One participant said, “This workshop and these visits have broadened our perspective on how gainsharing can truly enhance productivity and foster a collaborative workplace.”
