Fiji Hospitality Industry Embraces Cultural Diversity and Inclusivity

4 Apr 2025

A face-to-face Technical Expert Service (TES) project on Implementing Cultural Diversity and Inclusivity Strategies in Hospitality Operations for Fiji was held in Nadi, Fiji, from 25–28 February 2025. Hosted by the Department of Tourism, Hospitality and Travel at Fiji National University (FNU), this initiative aimed to equip hospitality professionals with innovative strategies to manage cultural diversity and enhance inclusivity in terms of service provision and customers.

The workshop engaged 28 participants and staff members from FNU as well as two resource persons from Malaysia and Singapore, who led interactive sessions on smart tourism technologies, policy development, and practical customer service strategies. The training significantly enhanced the understanding and practical application of inclusivity, paving the way for improved market reach and customer satisfaction.

Beyond achieving its core objectives, the project fostered robust networking among industry stakeholders, catalyzing future collaborative initiatives. Planned follow-up activities, including on-site field sessions and project assessments, will reinforce the implementation of these practices, ensuring sustained improvements in Fiji’s hospitality sector and bolstering the nation’s global competitiveness.
