Leveraging the Potential of Intellectual Property for Sustainable Innovation and Economic Growth

9 Oct 2024

An online workshop on the Role of Intellectual Property in Sustainable Innovation and Economic Growth was held from 10–12 September, organized by the Department for Productivity Implementations, Ministry of Industry and Technology, Turkiye, and the APO Secretariat. The aim of the workshop was to explore how intellectual property (IP) drives innovation-led productivity growth and contributes to socioeconomic development within APO member economies.

Forty-four participants from 13 APO members, led by five expert resource persons, one each from India, the ROK, and Turkiye, as well as two from Germany, completed the course. The workshop provided in-depth knowledge of effective IP management practices, policies, and governance frameworks that create an enabling environment for the promotion of IP rights. Participants gained valuable insights into the role of IP in strengthening innovation ecosystems and its direct impact on productivity growth and socioeconomic development.

The workshop was in line with the APO Vision 2025, which focuses on innovation-driven productivity growth and sustainable economic progress. By deepening participants’ understanding of the role of IP in fostering innovation and economic expansion, the project aimed to equip APO members with the tools necessary to address modern challenges and drive long-term productivity.
