The APO, through its TES program, implemented a hybrid project on Strategic Rightsizing for Productivity Enhancement in the Mining Industry from 11 November–2 December 2024 in Erdenet, Mongolia. This initiative addressed operational inefficiencies and redundancies faced by the Erdenet Mining Corporation, a major contributor to Mongolia’s economy that accounts for a significant share of the GDP and government revenue.
One international resource person from Canada led the training for 58 senior managers and task force members. The program covered functional analysis, rightsizing methods, organizational restructuring, and business improvement systems through the use of case studies, lectures, and hands-on consultations tailored to the mining sector.
The project achieved substantial results during the first phase by helping participants acquire practical skills related to rightsizing, sustainability improvements, and best practices from global mining leaders. The second phase focused on developing recommendations for organizational restructuring and the development of a transformation roadmap. Participants expressed strong satisfaction with the project’s practical relevance and opportunities for engagement. They highlighted its potential to drive significant improvements in organizational performance and sustainability. This project is a testament to the APO’s commitment to its Vision 2025 goal of sustained productivity growth. By focusing on capacity building and workforce quality, it has helped pave the way for transformative advancements in Mongolia’s critical mining sector.
