Study mission from Vietnam deeply learning microclimate control systems

21 Nov 2024

The APO Secretariat organized a face-to-face study mission on improvement of productivity in greenhouse vegetable production in Tokyo, Tochigi, and Fukushima, 16–18 October, under a Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Special Cash Grant project. The objective was to give participants a deep understanding of microclimate control systems used in greenhouses for enhancing the productivity of vegetable farming in Vietnam. This was the second mission to Japan, after the first held 8–10 February 2023. After the first mission, a demonstration farm in Vietnam installed the equipment observed in Japan, and its productivity has improved by 15% since its installation six months ago.

Seven participants from Vietnam attended the second mission, guided by three resource persons from Japan. Site visits to a strawberry farm and a farmers’ school using microclimate control systems allowed participants to observe and learn about the related technologies in Japan and consider their next steps for enhancing productivity.
