Conference on Organic Agriculture for Biodiversity and Sustainable Development

Organic agriculture is a holistic production management system that promotes and enhances agro-ecosystem health, including biodiversity, biological cycles, and soil health. This is achieved using agronomic, biological, and mechanical methods, as opposed to synthetic materials, to meet specific needs within the system.

To address global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and food security, the ways food is produced, processed, and consumed must be reviewed. Organic agriculture is one approach to address this by eliminating the use of synthetic inputs to reduce environmental impacts, improve sustainability, and promote site-specific management practices based on local resources. However, to promote organic agriculture on a wider scale, policies, ecosystems, and technologies are needed. This conference will examine how organic agriculture could contribute to biodiversity and sustainability and discuss practical solutions and strategies for APO members.
