Productivity Outlook: Trends and Linkages

This P-Talk shares the findings of the APO Productivity Outlook 2021, a joint APO and Korea Development Institute (KDI) publication.

Productivity gains in the manufacturing sector are essential in driving long-term sustainable economic growth regardless of a country’s stage of development. In this session, KDI Senior Research Associate Daehong Kim highlights manufacturing labor productivity patterns of APO member economies. In-depth analysis of challenges and prospects for manufacturing productivity of seven APO members is presented. Dr. Siwook Lee, Professor, KDI School of Public Policy and Management, elaborates on global value chains and ICT development, the two crucial determinants of manufacturing productivity. Recommendations for policies to recover from pandemic-induced sluggish manufacturing growth are given.
