Most countries today acknowledge the critical role of digital technologies and have developed national strategies to ensure that these technologies are beneficial to all groups and can enhance productivity. However, there is still room for improvement, as digital inequalities persist.
Dr. Araba Sey, University of Washington Information School, Seattle, USA, discusses whether digital technologies enable or constrain women’s equal participation in society, especially in the digital economy, drawing on examples from different regions and reflecting on key considerations necessary to bridge gender gaps and advance women’s empowerment.
