Workshop on Agribusiness Entrepreneurship for Persons with Disabilities

According to WHO (2023), approximately 16% of the global population aged 18 and older lives with some form of disability. Disabilities impact a range of socioeconomic outcomes, including labor market participation and education, often relegating PWDs to lower-skilled, lower-paid jobs or excluding them from the mainstream job market, particularly in rural areas.

In agriculture, PWDs are employed in limited numbers in lower-skilled, lower-paid positions due to specific challenges in this sector including the physical demands of the work and harsh working environments. However, recent developments in policies, models, and innovations have created more inclusive opportunities in agribusiness, allowing PWDs to engage in and contribute to productivity enhancement. This workshop is a follow-up to the Multicountry Observational Study Mission on Enhancing the Participation of Persons with Disabilities held in April 2024 to further explore how PWDs could engage in and contribute to productivity enhancement, particularly in the agriculture sector.
