CBSA is a holistic approach that emphasizes the participation of local communities in the planning, implementation, and management of sustainable farming practices, based on the principle that communities are best equipped to understand and address their own agricultural needs (FAO, 2018). This approach offers a number of opportunities, such as protecting the environment by implementing programs to conserve soil and water resources, reduce pollution, and promote biodiversity. It also creates job opportunities including for women and other marginalized groups. CBSA also improves food security and nutrition through enhanced agricultural productivity. However, challenges include a lack of policies, financing, leadership, know-how, and community engagement.
This workshop will provide a platform for leaders to learn about the latest developments and good practices in CBSA approaches and discuss how to disseminate them in APO members.
